Shahrzad was named after Scheherazade the story-teller from One Thousand and One Nights. She was born in Tehran and left her homeland when she was 12. She is a part of the Iranian generation that has experienced living through a revolution, war and repression and her music often times reflects these experiences. Shahrzad started her professional singing career as part of the female band "Silhouette" in the late 90's. After releasing a CD and touring the U.S. she left the band and began her solo career in 2000. So far she has released 4 albums including the new CD “Yek Rooz ” - her latest collaboration with producer & Jazz musician, Farzin Farhadi. Shahrzad's expressive vocal styling, touching songs and strong stage presence have won her many fans around the world.
